Program Manager
Adolescent Health at the Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs
Washington, D.C.

Primarily oversees a project that brings together state health and education agency staff to work collaboratively on adolescent HIV, STD, and pregnancy prevention. Also provides capacity-building and technical assistance to state maternal and child health programs on adolescent reproductive health issues and monitors adolescent reproductive health policy issues. Creating a contract major in WGSS focused my attention on what I wanted to get out of my time at Williams and provided the interdisciplinary view, with gender as the central focus instead of a specific discipline, that became the basis of my future career path. Working in the area of women’s and reproductive health requires insights from so many different fields, and I felt well prepared for that from the start because of the well-rounded nature of the WGSS major. The decision to get a Master’s in Public Health also grew out of my background in WGSS – public health, while having a grounding in the methodology of epidemiology, is strengthened by drawing on insights from multiple disciplines, and I believe my experience in school and in the field has been richer by having the interdisciplinary background of WGSS as a foundation. The Women’s and Reproductive Health concentration of my MPH is a testament to my continuing focus on women and gender that began at Williams and continues through my career, which is currently focused on improving adolescent reproductive health.
